How to Have Overwhelming Gratitude and Joy Leading to More Peace and Happiness

Being in gratitude, or being thankful, is one of the most beneficial things you can do for peace of mind and to release negative thoughts and emotions. It is your way to achieve greater levels of happiness, joy, and peace. When you feel down, find something to be grateful for.
Go on a serious search for everything you can think of to be thankful for. It helps you to get out of your head and into your heart.
I sometimes feel sorry for people in North America. The land of the free, home of the brave, and big mortgages, fancy cars, and often way too many gadgets like iPods, Palm Pilots, cell phones, DVD players, large screen televisions, computers, etc. etc. We are bombarded in newspapers, on television, on billboards, and everywhere else we turn with all the things we supposedly need.
And if there isn't enough money to easily afford all that "stuff," it is sometimes easy to feel well poor, less than, like a failure, etc. Which quickly leads to feelings of unhappiness. It is a fear based thing. And love and fear can not occupy the same space. So you have to choose one over the other. If you are focused on all that things you don't have, you can not be feeling connected to Source and feeling the love and joy that naturally goes along with that. And if you are focused on all the things that you don't have and are not feeling love and joy, you will most likely never get the things you really desire. Law of attraction.
If you have read my book Freeway to Freedom , you've probably read about all that stuff I used to have. The little red sports car, the limos in Manhatten, the cruises, the weekend getaways to fabulously fun locations.
There is alot more to the story of course. I was extremely unhappy. I had a complete stress-induced melt down and eventually left the glamerous life to find myself, love, and peace of mind.
I ended up with my husband, Raven, living a very simple life on top of a mountain in Southern California in the middle of a state park.The home had one truly unusual feature. If you placed a compass at the exact location where my chair sat at the kitchen table, it would spin around in circles. We were literally living on top of an energy vortex.
But it wasn't what was inside the house that mattered to us, it was the outside that was so glorious it still brings tears to my eyes when I think of it.
We lived literally in paradise.
All alone on a secluded mountain with deer eating fruit right off the tree outside the bedroom window, cougars leaving fresh paw prints in the snow next to the front porch, fox, and squirrel, and countless other creatures blessing us with their presence.
Every day I went outside with my notepads and pen. I had this perfect little spot. It was a grass covered circular opening in the forest. I was surrounded by trees and birds singing. The sun was smiling down on me. And I would sit and write. I wrote for hours every day for months. And while I was basking in the radiance of this nature nirvana, Raven was doing what he does best. He was off on an adventure in the woods, hiking, having conversations with the herds of deer he encountered, and lots of other simple awe inspiring pleasures that many people have never ever experienced. We were so joy-filled and happy.
Every day I walked a mile alone to the only store around, bought one or two little things, and walked a mile back. All along the way I would commune with every clump of wild flowers along my path.
The tiny little purple one's that refused to be photographed. Well every time I tried to photograph them they simply presented themselves as violet light. Beautiful, glowing, violet light with a hint of yellow. I have tons of photos like that of those little flowers. Some of them later became the Dancing Dolphin Essence "Ordination."
The gorgeous and wildly uplifting yellow ones that made me feel giddy just looking at them. They later became "Solar Initiation."
The miraculous realization that the new plant I'd noticed was now growing a giant bloom. And I absolutely positively "knew" that it was only going to bloom 1 day when it opened.
And, as always happens when I'm to make an essence, I woke up promptly at 4 a.m. knowing that today was the day. I gathered my things, called in my guides and helpers, requested permission, and made "Transcendence." I can hardly put into words the power in that essence.
And there were many more.
It was a place of miracles. A place of joy, happiness, and miracles.
The miracle of getting in touch with myself, with my creator, of sharing my life with my Beloved. The miracle of conceiving a child and feeling and observing the joyful changes of creating a new life. The miracle of Dancing Dolphin Essences being born.
The miracle of true joy. I was a certifiable bliss bunny. I have never been more happy. And I have never felt more grateful.
So you see, although I had an old car and lived in a very simple home, I experienced more happiness than most people will ever know. And we did it for almost a year. And for that short period of time, we didn't need to work. We taught the occasional class here or there with great appreciation from our students.
And then we re-entered upper middle class society and had a child.
Raven put on a suit and rode the train into the city to work at the largest bank in Canada at their main office downtown Toronto. We had radically switched gears.
Now I have to admit that I love my new Palm Pilot. And I probably couldn't function at all without my computer. The big screen TV is so much fun to watch movies on.
I'm happy. Truly happy. And all that stuff is nice, but it isn't at all what really matters.
How you feel about yourself is what really counts.
Feeling an overwhelming love and joy in your heart because of your connection to Source is what makes all the difference. Your peace of mind and knowing that everything is as it should be is paramount.
I actually began writing this article in order to tell you about the overwhelming feeling of gratitude I experienced while visiting Taco Bell one day. I found it an unusual place to be so overcome with gratitude that I cried, but it is where it happened.
My son, Jess, is a pretty picky eater. When I discovered that he would eat a Chicken Burrito Supreme at Taco Bell I was overjoyed. So we stopped in about once a week.
We went in one day and I found myself looking around at all the little hispanic ladies and gentlemen who work there. It was always the same lovely people who served us at lunch. And as I saw these people that I'd seen many times before, I was overcome with such a feeling of appreciation for the service they provide us, for the great tasting meal that they prepared for us to enjoy, I literally had tears running down my face.
Like everything that truly matters, it is a state of being.
Gratitude is a state of being. Love is a state of being. Joy is a state of being. Peace is a state of being. It is those states of being that you are seeking to experience, cultivate, and maintain.
I encourage you to dare to do whatever it takes to discover and become one with them.

Judgment vs. Discernment - What's the Difference and What Can It Do For You?

Grrrr . . . Damn that guy really pisses me off. He should not be . . . I can't believe he . . . That is so wrong . . . blah blah blah

You know when you are saying things like that, you are being judgmental.

How do you know?

It is sooooooo easy!

If you are upset, angry, fuming and telling others about the rightness or wrongness of another and their behavior, you are being judgmental. If you are pointing out the faults of another, you are being judgmental. If you are making statements about someone and you are emotionally upset about them and what you are saying about them, you are being judgmental.

You need to stop that.

Over and over again you hear that judging others is a bad idea. The law of cause and effect tells you that if you judge others, you will be judged. The Golden Rule says you should treat others the way you wish to be treated.

There are a few problems with the don't judge others rule.

First, it isn't easy. In fact, it isn't easy at all.

Second, do not judge another does not mean do not have an opinion or do not use discernment. And often people misunderstand that. They think they are supposed to just forgive everyone for everything and ignore poor behavior. No. No. No. That is called being a doormat.

And God does not want you to allow yourself to be mistreated by another. That is you saying that you - a child of God - are not important, don't matter, and not worthy of Divine love and happiness. That is definitely not the case. Your ability to connect with the Divine Presence actually improves when you become empowered, improve your self esteem, start to thrive, be happy, and feel fulfilled. When you surround yourself with others who appreciate your gifts and treat you with loving kindness, everyone is better off.

I've gone into depth in previous articles about all the things we judge - from a person's appearance, to their behavior, to the friends and career they choose. We have infinite opinions about the rightness and wrongness of things.

If you are talking about someone else and you are riled up, angry, upset, or stressed, then you can be pretty sure that you are being judgmental.

So if stress, anger, and getting all riled up about things ultimately leads to disease, heart attack, and other serious physical consequences, it only makes sense to eliminate the cause.

But, where to begin?

There is no right or wrong, good or bad. There are simply beneficial and detrimental things, people, and behavior. There are things, people, and behaviors that are harmonious or disharmonious for you, your life, and your well being.

Most people believe that killing another is wrong. And you can quote scriptures and a whole pile of other stuff to back up the point. But what if you have to kill someone in order to stop them from killing you or someone you love that is unable to defend themselves?

Hmmmm.

Eating sugar is considered detrimental to your health. But what if you are stranded on a deserted island and the only thing to eat is sugar cane? In that case it could actually be the only thing to save your life.

Hmmmm.

I could literally go on forever.

Money isn't bad. It is a means to afford the products, services, and experiences that you desire. It can be used for evil purposes. It can also fund food and shelter for people in need. What you do with it will cause it to be beneficial or detrimental for yourself and others.

Lying is considered evil. Yet in order to plan a special surprise party or gift for a loved one without their knowledge, sometimes truth has to be bent a bit to pull it off.

No one is strictly good or bad, right or wrong. Various behaviors by people are beneficial or detrimental. And that is what you have to keep in mind when choosing friends, a spouse, or a work environment.

When someone does something that is hurtful, you begin stepping out of judgment by not making the person wrong. You stop looking at the person as a totality and start looking at the behavior.

Certain behaviors are just not O.K.

And its easy to know which ones those are if you go back to the Golden Rule. Harming or mistreating another is never O.K. - whether the harm and mistreatment is physical, emotional, mental, or something else.

Rape, murder, infidelity, stealing, gossip, taking advantage of others for your own gain, cruelty, etc. all go against the Golden Rule. These behaviors are just not O.K. I'm sure you can think of many more.

These behaviors are not to be condoned. They are not to be accepted. And several of them result in the person being punished and taken out of society. The wellbeing of others is in jeopardy if they are walking around free on the streets. So they are banished, sometimes for life.

If someone you love mistreats you, it is shocking and painful. If it becomes a pattern, then you need to eliminate them from your life. That is called discernment.

You have to spend time with people who appreciate and accept who you are - warts and all. If you have to pretend to be a certain way, always worried that someone won't like you if you let them see who you really are, then that is a form of lying. You have to be real.

If the people in your life are always critical, judgmental, and unkind, then you are much better off without them.

There is nothing wrong with talking about a person and their behavior to your closest friend. I am not talking about gossip here. I mean looking at a situation with someone you trust and trying to discover the "truth" about how you played a role in the behavior, if that person was running some sort of fear that caused them to behave way out of character, or if this is the "truth" about how this person behaves and you need to distance yourself.

That is how you discover what feels good to you and what does not. That is how you discern the people and situations you choose to be around.

Judgment is detrimental to both you and your health.

Discernment is healthy and very necessary to your wellbeing and self esteem.

Summer Solstice 2010 and the Gulf Oil Spill

According to the U.S. Naval Observatory, this year's Summer Solstice is Jun 21, 2010 at 7:28 AM EDT.

Many groups are gathering in prayer, meditation, celebration, and setting of intention as the year's longest day (the most light) occurs. If you feel so moved, join in.

The Solstices and Equinoxes have been celebrated globally for thousands of years. Great civilizations all over the planet designed temples to precisely align with the sun particularly with the summer and winter solstice. These include Stonehenge in England, Chichen Itza in Mexico, Chaco Canyon in New Mexico, and many more. Scientists, historians, and other fact seeking  individuals and organizations are baffled in many cases at the precision with which these monuments align with the sun's movements.

Getting more in tune with nature, the earth, and the natural rhythms and cycles of the planet are a powerful way to access higher wisdom. It is almost as if the summer and winter solstices are the inbreath and outbreath of the planet itself. The more aligned you are with these natural rhythms, the more pronounced your intuition and ability to hear that still small voice within.

Many groups are using this energetically powerful portal time as a way to send healing light and global intention to the healing of the rupture in the earth's body and energy field related to the gulf oil spill fiasco. Join with my good friend Jonathan Goldman in toning  http://healingsoundsblog.com/.

For people who are into channeling, here is another group with an intention:

Being Healthy and Avoiding Toxins Including Thimerisol in Vaccinations

The following article is based on a recent conversation I had on Facebook about Thimerisol, mercury and other toxins, vaccinations, and being healthy.

In both Canada and the U.S., the parents I know with Autistic children that I've had a chance to discuss possible causes with, have all indicated that their child was totally normal before vaccinations and the problems started soon after. I personally had severe reactions to topical products containing Thimerisol (mercury). Why would anyone think its O.k. to inject Thimerisol into a person?

 This following link is to an article about the person who's research "proves" (yeah right) that vaccinations and autism are unrelated. I strongly encourage you to check it out:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/robert-f-kennedy-jr/central-figure-in-cdc-vac_b_494303.html?ref=fb&src=sp

I'd been wearing my contacts and using the contact solution with Thimerisol for several months. One morning I woke up and my eyes were almost swollen shut. The eyes were pink and there was tons of this glue like white goop oozing out everywhere. The minute I got to the optometrist, he took one look at me and told his assistant to get the stamp. He put this huge - I mean like 5 inches wide - stamp across the front of my chart that said "Thimerisol allergy." I asked him why I hadn't reacted to it before now. He said I was "right on schedule," that it took exactly how ever many months it was for the reaction to happen. Anyway, that was at least 20 years ago.

The energy healing techniques I offer are primarily for energetic and emotional damage, not chemical. Mercury in the system is a toxic poison that significantly affects the nervous system and the brain. Products and techniques that assist in removing toxins in the body are beneficial, as are energy healing and other forms of alternative or complementary medicine.

But the best medicine - as is always the case - is prevention. It's better to not have mercury in the system - through Thimerisol or traditional teeth fillings - than to try to clean it up once its already doing damage. It's better to keep the body alkaline by eating healthy and avoiding things like soft drinks, than to have to clean up the disease and disfunction caused when the body is too acid. It's better to handle the stress causing issues before they cause the body to begin breaking down with illness and disease. The Xooma Xtreme X2O water enhancement product I drink daily and offer as well, helps to keep the body alkaline, and assists with the gentle cleansing of toxins.

Most people treat their car better than their own body. They give it the proper type of fuel, they have the oil changed, they keep the engine and other important parts cleaned up so it runs well. We dump all kinds of "bad" things into our vehicle (body) and expect it to run as it was designed. It just doesn't work that way. Whatever goes in or on the body is absorbed and makes the system run well or horribly.

Memorial Day, Patriotism, and Being a Citizen of the World

Today's message to my readers has certainly caused lots of interesting reactions.

One reader basically called me unpatriotic. Another wanted off my mailing list because war is wrong and they couldn't believe I'd send out something remembering the fallen on memorial day. I found both reactions quite interesting.

This was my message to my newsletter readers today:

~~~~~
I just wanted to take this opportunity to share my deepest gratitude and appreciation for those men and women who have suffered and died so that we could be free here in the United States. Also thanks to the men and women who are currently serving or who have served in the past. And all the families and friends who have suffered because someone they love was away or lost in battle.
We take so many things in this country for granted sometimes. And we complain and criticize the politics, the wars, the "other guys" and what they are doing that is in opposition to how we think things should be done.
But the truth is without the armed forces of the United States and all they have done for us including selflessly risking their lives, we might live like so many people do in other parts of the world:
  • without a free education
  • without great literature and news easily available at the local library
  • without clean, safe water to drink
  • without free representation if you've been accused of a crime
  • without the ability to speak freely about the things you care about
  • without the ability to worship in the manner you choose
  • without the ability to get a job, own a home, own a business, get a higher education regardless of your race, nationality, religion, gender, political party, etc.
  • without the ability to change your life circumstance and go after and attain your dreams.
My son sometimes asks me where I most want to live in the world.
I may not always agree with the politics, or the wars, or the way the tax money is divvied up between programs and services provided. I am deeply saddened by our history and how we severely mistreated various groups of people like the Native Americans, the African Americans, the Chinese and other immigrants, etc. But despite all that, the answer to where I most want to live in the world is almost always within U.S. borders.
Thanks again for your service.
Many blessings to those still serving and the countless friends and family who have suffered because someone they love was lost or is currently away from home serving their country.
Deb
~~~~~
Within minutes of sending out the message, I got one back from a reader wanting off my list. Couldn't believe I would send such "crap." Her reaction prompted me to write this:

~~~~~
Up until about a year ago, I had a certain opinion about war and the military.
However, in the past year I have been surrounded by people who have been in the military, are in the military, or have lost loved ones in the military. The Unitarian Universalist church I attend did a very beautiful service for memorial day yesterday. Several members of the congregation, including a dear man I have greatly enjoyed getting to know because of our common interest in metaphysics, shared their stories of being in the military - some by choice, others by draft. Every one of them openly wept about what they saw, the people they lost, the memories they have. I was deeply moved.
The guy I began dating from high school who took me to prom 30 years ago, went in to the military right after high school and ended up in special forces. I never knew that until we started dating. He was shipped off to Teheran where he watched his buddies get blown to bits and he himself was hit and almost didn't make it. Through his eyes and with his help, I was able to see all of it from a completely different perspective.
It is not something I would chose for myself or my own son. I don't agree with the wars going on right now. And yet, as I am going deeply into world history as I homeschool my son, I am realizing that certain times when we were involved in war, it has been very important that we do so. Was it not imperative that we get involved after Pearl Harbor and help end the nightmare that was Hitler's regime? Heck, if I'd been alive and knew what was going on over there, I might have even volunteered to do something to stop it. In Korea, where my father served during the war, we were trying to prevent the spread of communism. I don't really know for sure, but I don't think communism has been a good thing.
Soldiers aren't bad people. In fact, the guy from high school is one of the kindest, most giving, compassionate, caring people that ever walked on the face of this earth. He was willing to die and he almost did. Not everyone who joins the military is of the same character. Some just want to "blow up the commies" or whatever they think. But there are a whole bunch of others who are doing it for noble reasons - for protection, for service, because they love their country, their families, their way of life.
War, like most things, is not as simple as black and white, good and bad, right and wrong.
To walk the journey I walk, I've been forced to look at my judgments of everything. And this was a big one for me.
I grieve when others suffer. Soldiers and their families are no exception.
I wish you well,
Deb
~~~~~

Later on I went on Facebook and discovered that one of my friends had disliked the way I said "where I most want to live in the world is almost always within U.S. borders." Apparently that isn't being patriotic enough. So that comment prompted me to write the following:

~~~~~
I've already married a foreigner and left the U.S., lived off American soil, even became a permanent resident somewhere else - heaven forbid - LOL.
If I was willing to do something once, then perhaps I would do it again. Every day is a new day and I have no idea what my future holds. I've moved for love more than once. I've moved for work more than once. Could either of those things, or something else, take me to another foreign land? Who knows. But I am definitely open to all possibilities.
I greatly enjoyed my time with our Canadian neighbors. If it weren't so bloody cold, I might still be there.
Most of the people I know who have lived in a foreign country, even for a little while, have been greatly enriched by the experience.
My son is a dual citizen. I'm thrilled for him.
Beautiful places all over the world call out to me -  San Diego, Hawaii, Belize, New Zealand, and many more. As my friend, Brian, island hops by boat for a whole year, I see the photos he posts and wonder if that place is somewhere I might like to visit or even live for awhile.
I am human just like 6.8 billion other people. My home is earth. I want happiness, health, and freedom from tyranny for everyone on the planet regardless of country, gender, age, religion, race, economic status, education level, political view, and anything else that keeps us artificially separated.
I'm an American citizen. I live on American soil. I enjoy the people and place where I currently live.
Yet I am definitely a person of the world. I've traveled and love to do so. I love finding out about cultures, food, dress, customs and religions others enjoy. I don't like war. I don't even like arguments. I care when others are suffering - I don't care who they are or where they live.
I look at the whole of the earth and all its creatures as a mother, or even grandmother, looks on her children or her grandchildren. They are all different. Yet they are all loved and cared for. I want them all to be healthy, safe, nurtured and protected. I want them all to thrive and be happy.
I loved a soldier and he touched my soul. I felt his pain and the pain of all the soldiers and all the families that have ever dealt with the aftermath of war. This day is about remembering their loss and their gift of service.
May they all be blessed,
Deb
Taking Responsibility for Your Health, Wealth, Happiness, Success, Love, Fulfillment, and Inner Peace
Have you ever made the conscious choice to take responsibility for your health, your wealth, your happiness, your success, your love, your sense of fulfillment and level of inner peace?
You have to do that you know!
You can be a victim, feeling like things outside yourself are the cause of your poor health, your failed relationships, your financial mess, or you anger. And as long as you believe that it is those things outside of you, the things you have no control over, that make or break your happiness, your health, your relationships, well everything in your life, then you will continue to be at the whim of the universe. You can blame the economy, your genetics, your spouse, your parents, your boss, the government and on and on about the life you are living. But the truth is, you have much more influence than you think.
If you want to improve a certain area of your life, then you have to seek out experts and learn about things you can do to change. Its you that must do the changing.
When you realize that you actually have a great deal of influence on your life circumstances, then you will realize that you can change a little or a lot and see dramatic results.
Einstein said the definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over and expecting a different result.
If your life isn't working, then something needs to change.
If your health is not what you'd like it to be, then you must change what you eat, drink, breathe, and even read and watch.
If your relationships aren't what you'd like them to be, then you must change how you speak, listen, react, and interact with others.
If your finances aren't what you'd like them to be, then you must change how you spend, save, invest, and otherwise use your money.
If your level of happiness and inner peace aren't what you'd like them to be, then you must change how you view the world, let go of your past, learn to meditate, forgive, connect with nature, spend time alone taking care of you, and much more.
The interesting thing about happiness is that if you discover how to be more happy, the other areas of life naturally fall in line. Finances, health, relationships, and everything tend to improve when you have a better state of mind.
Life works when you are happy, it sucks when you are not.
Have a fabulous day,
Deb
Get Healthy, Eat Healthy, Lose Weight, Have More Energy, Enjoy Life More!
Get Healthy, Eat Healthy, Lose Weight, Have More Energy, Enjoy Life More!
Can't believe people haven't figured out that you can't put crap in or on your body and expect to stay healthy. What starts on the soil, on the plant, or in the animal, ends up making your new cells. Gosh, I think it would take a rocket scientist to figure out that the only way to have healthy cells, is to feed them truly healthy food - sans chemicals. Duh! Seriously - what most people don't know about health and nutrition, I find truly scary!
For me personally, and people I know personally, the elimination of as many chemicals as possible from what we put in or on our body made a gigantic difference in our health. I went from needing 16 hours of sleep a day to only 6, with ample energy, and all body systems functioning significantly better than before. When you practically live at the doctors office and your health simply continues to get worse despite all the crap (sorry, medicine) they give you to take, you do what I did and seek alternative answers. I am NOT saying to ignore your doctor's advice or stop taking medicine that you need. I'm saying take full responsibility for your health and in addition to what the doctor suggests, learn to take better care of yourself. Study what the Bragg people have to say. Some of it sounds weird, but it definitely does work.
I know a little girl who ran barefoot across a neighbor's lawn that had been "treated" for pests and she began have severe seizures that took several years and many doctors and alternative therapies to straighten out. The pesticide is the same stuff sold at any home and garden store.
I'm all about prevention and wellness now.
I've seen miraculous changes in people's health, including my own, when they simply learn how to eat better, supplement with vitamins, minerals, and herbs, drink plenty of "good" water - not the junk that comes out of the tap, exercise regularly, get plenty of rest, eliminate soda entirely, stop smoking, stop spraying their lawns, their bodies, and their homes with toxins.
God gave us a body that was designed to function perfectly. And people who take great care of it, like the Okinawans - http://www.okinawaprogram.com/index.html, reap the benefits of a very long life. The U.S. comes out 48th in life expectancy.
We need fewer fast foods and more organically grown veggies, less soda and more healthy tea, less french fries and more brown rice. I'm not vegetarian. But I eat much less red meat than I do fish.
I've been healthy and I've been severally unhealthy. It took weird Chinese herbs and a complete change in eating, sleeping, exercise, and everything else patterns to get me to the level of health and vibrancy I experience today.
I've seen numerous research results indicating that the levels of various very important nutrients are much higher in organic produce than in non-organic. In many places - unfortunately not in the part of the U.S. where I live - organic is competing quite well in price with its chemical ridden cousins.
Its not just about eliminating what's not good for you. Its also about adding truly beneficial things. When you are getting truly high nutrient powerful food, and your body is utilizing it properly, the cravings for junk actually reduce significantly or goes away altogether. When people add the Xooma Xtreme X2O product I offer to their daily regimen, besides more energy, and weight loss, etc., one of the first things that happens is the reduction in desire for unhealthy stuff. Another great power food choice is blue green algae. My body loves the stuff.
My main focus is the emotional/mental causes of poor health - healing the past and all that.
