April 2012 Astrological Perspectives from the Sky

We enter April, having recently experienced the fresh new air of  Spring Equinox and an Aries New Moon.   But we are also experiencing the rewind movement of Mercury and Mars retrograde as April begins.

It is like getting mixed messages from the Universe. On the one hand  Spring Equinox and an Aries New Moon bring frequencies of new beginnings, fresh starts, and active energies.   But it is usually wise to not make any big moves or big decisions until those retrograde planets go direct.

Not too long into April these planets go back direct. And your ideas and life plans can go forward.

Mercury goes back direct on April 4.   Mercury rules the “airwaves” of mind and communication.  Those airwaves carry much static during Mercury Retrograde.  Perception has shifted, decisions are more difficult to make.

After April 4 those airwaves begin to clear up and mental clarity begins to sharpen. Resolution is easier to attain.  Answers are easier to find.  Yet it may take several days after Mercury goes direct before complete clarity is found and direction is more obvious.  We may have to wait for Mars.

Mars goes direct on April 13.  While Mars has been retrograde, many have been brought to a place in their life and consciousness where they have been reflecting on what they really want and where they want to go with their lives.

Now after April 13, when both Mercury and Mars are Direct again, people will be more able to know what they really desire for their life, what actions to take, and what direction to move.  It is time for moving forward with change.

And next month, when there is the first of two eclipes in a row, a Solar Eclipse New Moon in Gemini on May 20, change and deep transformation in our lives will accelerate greatly.  This change will erupt in our lives in May, June and into the summer of 2012. There will be breakdowns and breakthroughs into new phases of our lives.

But first we go through April, a month when we begin to open to change, change which will accelerate greatly in late spring and summer.

On April 6, which is Good Friday, just two days after Mercury goes direct, there is Full Moon in Libra at 3:19 PM EDT.    This is a good time to balance your personal needs and your independence with the needs of your relationship.  If you have been giving your self away, it is time to empower your self; and if you have been too self involved, it is time to think more about the needs of your partner or friend.

On April 10 Pluto, the planet of deep, intense and powerful transformation changes from direct to retrograde motion.  The importance of Pluto retrograde does not rival the importance of Mercury, Mars, and Venus retrograde; nevertheless, the days surrounding a Pluto shift in direction, whether going direct or going retrograde, are intense.   Sometimes then we find ourselves in critical situations. These situations can bring a cathartic intensity which results in a clearing and resolution.

In the greater world powerful events often occur in the days surrounding Pluto's shifting direction.

On April 15 the Sun opposes Saturn, which brings a tightening of energies.  This aspect can feel like a stop sign, where you are presented with situations that control your movements or bring in unwanted obligations or responsibilities.  April 15 being Tax Day fits the Sun/Saturn energetic.

On April 19 the Sun moves into Taurus, and on April 21 the Moon joins the Sun there to make a New Moon in Taurus.   Taurus is fixed Earth, and as such takes the forceful fiery energies of Aries new beginnings and grounds them. So what you began last month can now be made more practical and manifested.

Taurus resonates well with security, comfort, and pleasure.  It is being in touch with the physical senses.  Taurus is solid and calm.  It is about physical nurturance and home.  Taurus likes to have security and physical resources, and money and real estate are means to those ends. Use this Taurus time of year to get in touch with your physical needs for comfort and security and for making real and pracical your ideas and dreams.

The winds of the Eclipse season may be starting to blow in after this New Moon in Taurus.  They will pick up and be stronger winds after the Full Moon in Scorpio on May 5.  These winds will get more and more powerful leading up to the first eclipse on May 20.

That first eclipse will be a Solar Eclipse New Moon in Gemini.   It will be followed by a Lunar Eclipse Full Moon in Sagittarius.   These aspects will shake up the status quo and motivate change.

We will discuss these eclipses in much more detail in our forecast for May.

Have a lovely April.
